12AX7 A nine pin dual triode with a mu (amplification) of 100. Made in several different versions. The following subs work: 6681, CV-4004, ECC83, etc. Now we have Chinese, Russian, Slovakian, Yugoslavian and USA-made 12AX7s. 5751s will work where lower gain is desired. Use them in V1 or V2 positions. V1 Position is most important. For best tone, use a new or used Mullard 12AX7, Dutch philips or Bugle Boy 12AX7 or a Telefunken 12AX7.
