Tubes listed below are tested and matched for the longest life and superior Sonics in your equipment, whether high-end audio or musical instrument amplifiers. All new old stock (NOS) tubes are warranted for a period of 30 days, provided they are used in equipment that is operated within the specified operating range. Audio tubes are available as single tubes, matched pairs and matched quads. All power tube matching is done on our MaxiMatcher digital tube matcher that matches both plate current and transconductance within 1%.

All high quality small signal tubes such as 12AX7s, 6922s, 6SN7s are tested with a George Kay Small Signal Tube Tester or VTV Dual Triode Characterizer for the following characteristics:

1. Noise and microphonics  Quieter is better when it comes to small signal tubes. It is also a most important requirement for maximum life-like realism from your equipment. We screen our tubes for the lowest possible noise allowed. Microphonics cause feedback in sensitive tube circuits, especially phono stages and guitar amplifiers. We screen our tubes for lowest microphonics.

2. Gain   Gain also means transconductance or mu. This refers to how much the tube amplifies the voltage. Ideally, both triodes should be matched in gain for maximum fidelity and lowest distortion. We screen all premium NOS tubes for appropriate gain.

3. Plate Current for matched sets (pairs or quads of output tubes) This is important for lowest distoriton and most power output. Plate current is measured in milliamps and is done with a digital tube matched rated for volages from 325Vdc to 400Vdc.

Noisy and/or microphonic tubes are graded at a lower level for use in non-critical applications.

Note: We now sell a wide variety of used but test good tubes. For those on a budget, this is a great way to get a classic tube for less than half NOS prices. These tubes are without original box, but are tested for emission, plate current and transconductance. Used Small Signal tubes such as 12AX7s are not recommended for sensitive front ends, like super high-gain guitar amps, phono stages or microphone preamps. They do work well in low to medium mu line stages, amplifier driver stages, DACs, and lower sensitivity guitar amp stages. Used power tubes will work well in most applications, but do not have as long a lifetime as NOS or new tubes.

All used tubes are sold as-is and have no warranty.
