After almost four years, VTV has re-introducing the legendary VTV Ultra-Tone Capacitors. These capacitors were noted for their incredible musicality, sweet sound and awesome realism. They are now available in most high voltage coupling and signal capacitor values and will soon become available in values from 2uf to 10 uf @600Vdc.

Our new manufacturer purchased the original capacitor winding equipment from England and has made several improvement to the design including an insulated full aluminum metal case (instead of the former plastic case), solid silver wire leads, aluminum foil, high grade Kraft paper dielectric and newer dielectric mineral oil with a higher temperature rating. The caps are hermetically sealed and are much better made than the previous version. They will not leak and are warranted to perform to specifications and not leak oil. Superb high-frequency definition and sweetness, incredible bass and midrange depth. These capacitors are legendary and now they are back for your audio enjoyment!

These caps sound much better than the Sequa, Jensen (copper or tin foil) and are comparible if not superior to the very expensive AudioNoteUK  foil caps which cost about three times what the VTV Ultra-Tones cost! These are considered the best of the best signal capacitors in the world!

Incredible sound and tone, I think they sound better than Jensens that cost twice as much. I have tried these in tube guitar amps and tube hi-fi gear. They are sweet, musical and detailed. NEW CAPACITORS
We carry several lines of coupling and electrolytic capacitors and will note sonic impressions and best applications for each type. Contrary to many uninformed out there, capacitors can make a huge difference in the sound of your equipment. In most cases, the difference is substantially more than expensive cables and interconnects. When replacing old wax/paper caps in vintage gear, upgrading caps in newer high-end gear or building your own equipment, a good sounding capacitor is essential. Remember that all capacitors require at least a 30-40 hour break-in period before they mellow out and the sound stabilizes. 

Capacitor Installation Tips:  Remember to connect the inner foil side facing the output.   In coupling caps, this means connecting the inner foil to the grid of the output tube and the outer foil to the plate of the driver tube.  On some caps, the color of the wire indicates the inner foil side, on some the inner foil is marked and on others it is typically the right side of the cap when reading the value. On older caps, the outer foil is indicated by a band around the cap.

The Best Sounding Bargain-Priced Replacement Caps

Illinois Capacitor (IC) has been in business for over 50 years and has been manufacturing some of the finest capacitors in the world at a reasonable price. Each IC capacitor is inspected by trained professionals and is 100% burn-in tested to assure superior performance.

IC capacitors offer the builder, vintage equipment restorer and repair technician a Sonic BEST BUY in capacitors. John Atwood, VTV Technical Editor hasi measured and tested IC-MWR capacitors and noted that for the money, they are one of the best sounding film caps on the market. Charlie Kittleson and Earl Yarrow, both vintage hi-fi equipment restorers for many years, say that ICs sound very warm, yet detailed and musical. The IC-MWR sonics are very close to the original designers intentions for the equipment. We have noted that certain high priced film caps tend to dry the sound out and even make certain vintage equipment unlistenable. IC-MWR caps are an excellent choice if you are restoring any type of vintage tube gear or re-capping crossovers in vintage speakers. Replacing old bi-polar or oil caps in vintage loudspeakers with IC-MWR caps will make a tremendous improvement in the sound quality for very little money. Without a doubt, the IC-MWR film caps are the best sounding capacitors for the money available today.   These are the BEST CHOICE for rebuilding older vintage hi-fi equipment.

Electrolytic capacitors typically go bad in older equipment with age and lack of use. The aluminum oxide past tends to crystalize and instead of acting like a capacitor, it acts like a conductor, taking out expensive transformers, tubes and other expensive parts!! If you are rebuilding old tube gear or building new gear, new electrolytics are essential for dependable power supply operation. We carry a variety of high quality and reliable, but inexpensive electrolytic capacitors. These are brand new, tested and are warranted by the manufacturer for 90 days.
